ABOUT THE ARTIST

Shane Stover always loved drawing. Born in 1981, in San Luis Obispo, California, he demonstrated his extraordinary ability as an artist at a young age and began his professional career while still in his teens. By the time he graduated from high school, he had earned multiple art awards, scholarships, and completed many commissioned pieces. In college he continued his education in the arts and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree (Art and Design major) from San Francisco State University in 2004. Since his graduation from college, the demand for his work, especially commissioned pieces, has increased dramatically.

Numerous press articles have been written about Shane and his incredible art talent. Glen Starkey summarized Shane's ability by writing, ”Not only are Shane's drawings compositionally excellent and proportionally perfect, they also demonstrate exceptionally facile technical skill. “ Shane’s portraits capture the true likeness as well as the energy of his subject. It is not unusual for his finely detailed paintings to be mistaken for photographs. “I paint people primarily because people are alive and have emotions. I try to capture these emotions: excitement, wonder, happiness, or sadness, and amplify them through the way the subject is presented. Hopefully the viewer can relate to these things” comments Stover.

Shane’s life experiences have provided inspiration for his art. Shane began playing baseball at an early age and continued playing throughout his college years. This experience gave him a love for the game and an appreciation for the commitment and talent of athletes. This understanding is conveyed in his sports paintings which show the emotion and power of athletes, capturing them in the most dramatic and intense moments.

A versatile artist, Shane works in both illustration and the fine arts. While his central subject matter remains portraiture he has done work ranging from landscapes, to t–shirt designs, tattoo art, and book illustration. He has received commissions from individuals throughout the United States as well as Europe and Canada. His work has been featured in many art shows and galleries, with his first solo exhibition occurring in the year 2001 at the young age of 19.
